The Waste Management Phoenix Open, known as “The Greatest Show on Grass,” held at TPC Scottsdale annually in early February. The WMPO is the best-attended golf tournament in the world with more than 655,000 fans attending in 2017.
The event has gained legendary status for being unlike any other golf tournament. The 16th Hole is one of the most famous and well-known holes on the tour. Come tournament week the hole is completely transformed into a stadium with enough room to entertain 15,000 screaming fans.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. When the sun sets and the golf game ends, the party heats up at the Coors Light Bird’s Nest. It has brought some of the biggest names in music over the years including, Kid Rock, Afrojack, Tiesto, Darius Rucker and more. For four nights, the Bird’s Nest is the hottest nightclub in Scottsdale and carries a legendary status on the PGA Tour.
The Thunderbirds, host of the WMPO, raised a record $9.3 million for local charities through proceeds raised from the tournament. The Thunderbirds and the WMPO have raised more than $45M for charities since 2010 when Waste Management became the title sponsor.
The WMPO has won the PGA TOUR’s “Best Title Sponsor Integration award for diverting 100% of tournament waste from landfills. Zero waste means nothing from the tournament went to landfills in three years – not a single cup, can, sign or container.
